The winery, due to its location by the seaside, benefits from a typically Mediterranean climate. The winters are mild and summers are hot with a lot of sunshine. It's a healthy climate due to the frequent winds which slow the development of diseases. Sea breezes help cool things down during the summer.

Les Charmettes Winery has two types of soil.

The winery and its 80 ha. are located on Pliocene clay (quartz gravel) soil. Mediterranean grape varieties dominate (Carignan, Syrah, Terret, Grenache and Mourvèdre).

The second type of soil close to the Winery contains clay, sand and mud. Since the location is cooler the crop matures approximately 7-10 days later. Atlantic grape varieties are best suited for this area.

The current grape varieties at the winery are :
Red : Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Pinot.
White : Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Viognier, Grenache blanc
and Terret.

A lot of importance is given to the methods used for cultivating the vineyard. In fact all replanted vines are supported and cultivated using cordon de royat pruning.

We have used reasoned methods of agriculture over all these years. To affirm our respect for the environment, we plan on signing the "Charte de Lutte Raisonnée" (Charter for Integrated Farming).
