La
Magdelaine Rouge 2001
Appellation
: Vin de Pays d'Oc.
Grape Varieties
: 30 % Cabernet-Sauvignon, 30 % Merlot, 30 % Carignan, 10 % Grenache.
" La Magdelaine " is the name of an area containing several plots of land. This is the first vintage from this cuvee in red.
Vinification
: Traditional maceration for the Cabernet and Merlot, manually harvested and sorted at the beginning of October, slightly past peak maturity. Cold maceration for the Grenache and Carignan grapes also picked slightly past peak maturity. The four grape varieties were vinified separately. The color and tannins were extracted only using measurements. The Cabernet and the Merlot were then pre-blended when poured into the barrels. The Grenache and Carignan were left to mature separately. The final blend took place prior to bottling. The Merlot and Cabernet come from plots of land that are over 15 years old. The Carignan and Grenache are from plots of land that are 30 years old.
Bottled on 17 March 2003. This is a non-clarified wine that has only gone through slight filtering.
Presentation
: 0.75 l Bordeaux seduction -type bottle with an antique tint.
Packaging : Boxes of 6 bottles lying on their sides.
Tasting : Intense red color with flashes of violet. There are hints of red fruit in the nose at first which after swirling give way to more developed scents of spices and roasted coffee beans. The attack is round with substance. The acidity during the finish gives a certain length and freshness to the wine.
